Frank Azor, Chief Architect of Gaming at AMD, just confirmed that AMD’s Anti-Lag+ technology is making a comeback, and it’s going to be even better than before.

AMD aimed to counter NVIDIA’s Reflex with their Anti-Lag+ technology, both designed to reduce input lag and improve system latency. These features are crucial when using frame generation technologies like AMD FSR 3 and NVIDIA DLSS 3. AMD’s approach was considered an upgrade, as it not only worked within supported games but also allowed activation through drivers with a simple toggle as part of AMD’s HYPR-RX suite. In initial tests, Anti-Lag+ performed well with the release of FSR 3 titles like Forspoken and Immortals of Aveum.

Unfortunately, AMD faced a setback with the driver toggle, causing players to be banned from various online games like Call of Duty: Warzone, Counter-Strike 2, Overwatch 2, and more. The problem stemmed from toggling Anti-Lag+ through the driver for a specific game, which altered game files and triggered detection as “cheating” by game-specific anti-cheat technology. The extensive bans prompted developers and publishers to advise gamers against using Anti-Lag+ in their games.

AMD took things a step further by removing the Anti-Lag+ driver from their website. Later on, they released a new driver that took away support for Anti-Lag+. This essentially meant that the promised driver-side Anti-Lag+ was reversed, and it’s been almost four months since we last witnessed the technology in action. However, there’s good news – AMD is assuring users that Anti-Lag+ is making a comeback, and this time around, it’s expected to be in a much better state than before.

You can still find AMD Anti-Lag+ support in games that support it. AMD collaborated with the developers of these games to integrate Anti-Lag+ support directly, eliminating the need for users to toggle it on through the driver. Currently, AMD has Anti-Lag+ support in the following games:

  • Apex Legends
  • Overwatch 2
  • Dying Light 2
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider
  • Resident Evil 4
  • Ghostwire: Tokyo
  • Fortnite
  • Last of Us: Part 1
  • Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
  • Resident Evil 3
  • Borderlands 3

The list looks shorter now because they had to take out all the online games due to player bans. They might put them back once AMD releases a newer version that works better for online games. The new RDNA 3 GPUs (Radeon RX 7000) will still support the technology, while the other GPUs will stick to the regular Anti-Lag tech. And, by the way, AMD also confirmed a couple of new and upcoming FSR 3 titles.

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
  • Farming Simulator 22
  • House Flipper 2
  • Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
  • Mortal Online 2
  • MotorCubs RC
  • Nightingale
  • REMNANT II
  • Starfield (beta update)
  • Starship Troopers: Extermination
  • The Thaumaturge
  • The Talos Principle 2
