Because of the delay, the AMD RDNA 2 graphics card Radeon RX 6950 XT, RX 6750 XT, and RX 6650 XT are now launching on the 10th of May.

Earlier we were expecting that the AMD RDNA 2 refreshed graphics cards is launching on the 20th of April alongside the Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU but that’s not the case now. Because according to the sources (Videocardz) the GPUs launch date is delayed to 10th May.

In addition to the delay, it looks like Videocardz has also managed to get photos of the three AMD RDNA 2 GPUs that will now come in the fan-favorite ‘Midnight Black’ color variant. The flagship AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT will come with the same design as the current RX 6800 XT Black Edition while the other two GPUs will be getting a significant shuffle in design. The RX 6750 XT will come with a slightly bigger 2-slot design and a triple-fan design, while the RX 6650 XT will go with a dual-fan cooler.

While some may think that the new designs will help to keep the thermals in control. But the cards will not be that much different in heat output than their existing AMD Radeon RX 6000 series variants. Only a GDDR6 clock bump and small clock speed improvements won’t change the heat output of these cards that much. The updated designs are AMD showcasing their engineering expertise and how they can plan multiple solutions for different types of graphics cards. Altogether, it’s a pretty neat shuffle by AMD.

AMD RDNA 2 Radeon RX 6000 XT Series Graphics Card Refresh

The refreshed GPUs will be AMD Navi 21, Navi 22, & Navi 33 for the upcoming Radeon RX 6X50 XT lineup. The Radeon RX 6900 XT, RX 6800 XT & RX 6800 currently using AMD Navi 21 GPU, while the Navi 22 GPU powers the RX 6700 XT, and theRX 6600 XT & 6600 using Navi 23 GPU on the desktop platform. The Radeon RX 6X50 XT graphics cards will be featuring 18 Gbps memory along with certain clock enhancements.

According to a previous rumor by videocardz, we came to know that these cards will support GDDR6 memory dies with 18 Gbps. Presently, all cards excluding the upcoming RX 6500 XT & the flagship RX 6900 XT LC, support 16 Gbps memory dies. The 18 Gbps bump might offer more increased bandwidth and boost performance by 2-5% but that doesn’t show a huge difference with the refreshed series graphic cards. There are clearly going to be some process enhancements included in the new RDNA 2 refresh GPUs according to the rumors by wccftech of the RX 6950 XT clock speed over 2.5 GHz.

It would’ve been helpful if AMD presented its current desktop GPUs with the 6nm treatment & managed to gain more performance efficiency out of them but it’s clearly not happening. It looks like this mild refresh will feature both reference custom model and ‘midnight black’ designs.

The TGP numbers are expected to increase slightly because of the faster memory chips and there would also be a small price difference. These GPUs will probably compete with Intel’s high-end ARC Alchemist GPUs that are launching in a few months, but the AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT flagship graphics card is indeed aimed at NVIDIA’s RTX 3090 Ti graphics card which is one power-hungry GPU.
