According to sources, the hard launch date for AMD’s upcoming desktop Zen4 CPUs has reportedly been set. While AMD acknowledged that the Ryzen 7000 “Raphael” Desktop CPUs would be officially launched this quarter, we were able to obtain the final announcement, review, and launch dates from our sources, which confirm that the Zen 4 CPU family and X670 motherboards will have their official retail launches in September.

This is a follow-up to the formal announcement from AMD that the Ryzen 7000 series will be available this quarter. During the Q&A session about the company’s Q2 earnings, AMD CEO Lisa Su condensed the release date.

But it seems like we now have a specific date. Sources claim that AMD will introduce its new series on August 29. On September 15, just two weeks after that, AMD will end the sales ban.

AMD Ryzen 7000 “Raphael” Desktop CPUs & X670 Motherboards Officially Launching on September 15

According to the information we currently have, it appears like AMD will have a product release event later this month that will center on the features and costs of its Ryzen 7000 Raphael family and provide motherboard manufacturers the opportunity to publish the initial costs of their boards. This event will happen on August 29, although Ryzen 7000 CPUs won’t be available for purchase for another two weeks.

The reviews of the AMD Ryzen 7000 desktop CPUs and X670 motherboards are now under restriction. On September 13 September 13, the embargo will be released, and on September 15, the items will officially go on sale. The dates in brief are:

  • 28 PCIe lanes (CPU Exclusive)
  • 105–120W TDPs, with an upper bound of 170W

Having stated that, let’s move on to the details of four SKUs

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X 16 Core “Zen 4” Desktop CPU

The AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, the top model of all, has a healthy 16 cores and 32 threads, just like it had in the previous two generations. The processor will have an impressive 4.5 GHz base frequency and a maximum boost clock of 5.7 GHz, which should make it 200 MHz speedier than Intel’s Alder Lake Core i9-12900KS, which has a single-core boost frequency of 5.5 GHz. AMD is getting as much Hertz out of the Ryzen 9 chips’ 170W TDP (230W PPT) as possible. The CPU has 80 MB of cache, of which 64 MB are from L3 (32 MB per CCD) and 16 MB are from L2 (1 MB per CCD).

The Ryzen 9 7950X hasn’t been priced or tested yet, but based only on its clock speeds, and it should be a worthy replacement for the Ryzen 9 5950X and be able to defeat Intel’s current Core i9-12900K CPU.

AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12 Core “Zen 4” Desktop CPU

The AMD Ryzen 9 7900X is the next chip on the list; as its name suggests, it has 12 cores and 24 threads. The CPU has a boosted rate set at 5.6 GHz across a single thread and an even faster base clock of 4.7 GHz. The CPU receives 76 MB of cache (64 MB L3 + 12 MB L2) while maintaining its 170W TDP. The CPU will be comparable in price to the AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, but it will outperform the Core i7-12700K in terms of performance.

AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 8 Core “Zen 4” Desktop CPU

We are looking at the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X, an 8-core and 16-thread component from the Ryzen 7 family. The CPU will have a base clock of 4.5 GHz and a boost clock of 5.4 GHz, but at a lower 105W TDP, since AMD sees this as the sweet spot for gamers (142W PPT). The CPU will receive a 40 MB cache pool, which is made up of 8 MB L2 and 32 MB L3 from the single Zen 4 core and CCD, respectively.

Now, it’s interesting to note that AMD has not yet released an update for the Ryzen 7 7800X processor. AMD may aim to replace that component with a Ryzen 7 5800X3D replacement with Zen 4 cores (3D V-Cache). If so, the CPU lineup will likely be updated later this year since AMD has confirmed that the V-Cache components will debut in the latter half of Q4 2022. Additionally, the Ryzen 7 7700X will be priced very competitively in the mainstream sector based on segmentation.

AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 6 Core “Zen 4” Desktop CPU

The Ryzen 5 7600X, the most affordable processor (if you can call it that; the price won’t reflect that), is next. This device has a high 4.7 GHz base clock and a 5.3 GHz single-core boost frequency. It has six cores and twelve threads. The CPU’s 105W TDP (142W PPT) is significantly greater than its 65W predecessor, but you have to make that sacrifice to get quicker clock rates. 38 MB of cache, made up of 6 MB of L2, and 32 MB of L3, will be carried by the CPU.

Users Only Can permit to Undervolt Desktop AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs?

We learned yet another important fact, which is now in our possession. The AMD Ryzen 7000 Desktop CPUs, which feature the Zen 4 core architecture, may only permit customers to undervolt the chip itself, according to the same sources. This would be similar to the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, which likewise featured a voltage cap that wasn’t intended to be surpassed. It appears that AMD is already operating the CPUs at a high enough voltage to reach the higher clock rates, leaving little to no possibility for more overclocking. The 5.85 GHz frequency cap has been mentioned before, leaving the upper components with only 150 MHz.

For its X670E and X670 class motherboards, AMD has mentioned Extreme and Enthusiast overclocking. That might have something to do with DDR5 memory, but we don’t know. I think the initial AM5 generation will support some PBO overclocking, albeit somewhat.

The Final Words

With all the information we got in the article, we will see you in a few hours for the AMD Meet the Experts webcast, where we hope to learn more about DDR5 EXPO support because that is one of the critical features of the AM5 platform itself. That is all the information we have for you at this time. No launch or announcement will occur during the Livestream because it is scheduled for August 29, as we have previously reported, but we may pick up some information regarding the AM5 ecosystem.
