In Xanxo Gaming‘s unofficial review of AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D, they were the first to disclose the proper gaming benchmarks. Based on the gaming performance benchmarks, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D delivers very solid results compared to Intel’s flagship Core i9-12900K Alder Lake CPU.

The AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D is going to be the first and only chip that has 3D V-Cache based on the 7nm Zen 3 core architecture. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D is packed with 8 cores, 16 threads, and 100 MB of combined cache thanks to its additional 64 MB 3D Stacked SRAM design. It has base Clock speeds of 3.4 GHz and boost clock speeds of 4.5 GHz with a TDP of 105W.

As for the pricing, the MSRP for the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D is $449 US which is the same as the non-3D Ryzen 7 5800X, which means that the non-3D Ryzen 7 5800X is going to get a price decrease to either $399 or even lower. The Intel Core i7-12700K is less expensive compared to Ryzen 7 5800X3D, and Intel Core i7-12700K offers more cores/threads but lower cache. It will be interesting to see performance benchmarks between the two chips.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D Gaming Benchmarks

The test platform for the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D is paired with an X570 testbed with DDR4-3200 CL14 memory and compared to an Intel Core i9-12900K running on a Z690 platform with DDR4-3200 CL14 memory too. Now while Alder Lake can indeed support much faster memory speed compared to the AMD platform, especially DDR5, those do come in at an extra price and don’t provide a valid comparison. Both platforms were using the same graphics card GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Founders Edition.

In the gaming benchmarks that include several AAA title games tested at 1080p resolution, the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D matched the flagship Intel Alder Lake Core i9-12900K CPU, in 6 out of the 12 games. In the rest games, it didn’t lose, in fact, the $449 US chip Ryzen 7 5800X3D outperformed the $500 US+ chip Intel Core i9-12900KF in those titles which is might impressive. The lead difference is anywhere from up to 29% to an average of 10-15%.

The overclocking capabilities of AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D do lack and by adding 3D V-Cache in the chip AMD had to reduce Ryzen 7 5800X3D clock speed a bit so standard CPU workload performance would either be identical or a bit slower compared to the standard Ryzen 7 5800X. This chip is specifically said to be made for gamers, you will not notice the difference in application performance unless the app does make use of the extra cache somehow.

For gamers on the AM4 platform who were looking for a better option and having second guesses before the Ryzen 7 5800X3D launch of whether they should move to Intel because they were giving better performance, now after the Ryzen 7 5800X3D launch they have the great option that they can invest in on their existing platform. This will help AMD keep its userbase till they launch their Zen 4 core architecture on the next-gen AM5 platform featuring AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs. Given the huge performance boost over non-3D chips that V-Cache brings, we certainly would have loved to see an even more affordable option like the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X3D in the market but hopefully, AMD resumes to finance in such technologies for its future generation of processors. The AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D will be available on 20th April with reviews hitting the web on 14th April.
