NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card has been defined in new rumored specs and it is anticipated that NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4090 is twice as fast as the GeForce RTX 3090.

Kopite7kimi tweeted the latest specifications once again. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 will also be packed with the same AD102 GPU as the ‘Ti’ variant but the configuration will be reduced based on the rumor.

The AD102 ‘Ada Lovelace’ GPU will feature 144 SMs, a 71% boost over the current GA102 GPU, and house a giant 18,432 CUDA core count. According to the rumors the  GeForce RTX 4090’s GPU SKU will be packed with 16,128 CUDA cores which is a 50% growth in core count over the RTX 3090, but RTX 4090 Ti with full-fat AD102 configuration has 14% more cores than the RTX 4090 which may arrive later. It’s the same case as the current generation where the ‘Ti’ variant of the 3090 got the full-fat GA102 GPU and although launched ahead, the non-Ti variant came with a cut-down config.

The Ada Lovelace GPUs will feature increased SM counts and increased L2 cache sizes. Beginning with the AD102 GPU, the flagship would be equipped with up to 96 MB of L2 cache, which is 16x more than the 6 MB L2 cache featured on GA102. This cache yet isn’t as big as Infinity Cache featured on AMD’s RDNA cards but it’s still a massive jump for NVIDIA’s own graphics cards.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card will also feature 24 GB of GDDR6X memory clocking in at 21 Gbps with a 384-bit bus interface and delivering over 1.0 TB/s bandwidth. The latest details also reduce the overall TDP numbers to 450W which indicates that the RTX 4090 may not go wild with the clocks that the full-fat variant with a 600W is expected to go with.

There are specific models that go beyond the 450W TBP (reference) and up to 516W (custom), as we saw with the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti. The same case is going to be with Ada Lovelace-based GPUs. And while this will demand lots of cooling, it looks like AIBs are well and ready. We are probably going to see the use of more hybrid-styled GPU coolers rather than standard air-coolers once we go above the 600W TBP limit. This will mark a 33% gain in TBP over the RTX 3090 Ti. As per the latest rumors, NVIDIA is expected to announce its next-gen GeForce RTX 40 series by mid of July which indicates we are getting a new generation of cards in early Q3 2022.

It is possible that in the first wave, RTX 40 series are to include RTX 4090, 4080, and 4070 SKUs. Simply remember that those are still rumored specs, and indeed there is a lot changing each week.
